According to the 2016 Power of Meat Study, Shoppers continue to put a premium on their meat choices and are increasingly invested in finding healthy options, making more informed purchases and watching prices. Here is what the study revealed:
Protein is Power – 82% of shoppers believe meat and poultry are a valuable sources of protein.
Homegrown is Appreciated – 63% of shoppers are very interested in purchasing meat that’s raised or produced in the USA and transparency of production process is a must.
Millennials represent more than one quarter of the nation’s population, about 83.1 mill (US Census Bureau). They have not had the warmest reception to the workforce. Many have been subjected to generalizations of being “lazy,” “entitled” or “who lack understanding.”
Millennials enjoy social responsibility and ethical conduct. They tend to support businesses that carry our responsible ethical decisions. Millennials will often ask more questions before they make purchases and they play a more conservative role than the openness to change.
It’s a fact, businesses need to pay more attention to this consumer in the future and be prepared for the accountability along the way.

In 2016, beef production was up 5 percent. One livestock economist, Scott Brown, University of Missouri states, “beef exports this year will probably be up 200 million pounds compared with 2015. Moving ahead, demand for U.S. products is critical because export markets may be a significant place to move products.”
He went on to say, “higher quality meat cuts are creating stronger demand and this may be attributed to higher income classes seeing more growth.” Ground beef is averaging $3.67 a pound, while round roasts averaged $5.02 per pound and choice sirloin averaged $8.59 per pound, according to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics.
